Frequently asked questions.

What insurances do you accept?

At this time, I do not contract with any insurance companies. All payments for services provided are collected by me prior to our sessions. If appropriate, I can provide individuals with a Superbill (detailed receipt of services) that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. This would make me an out-of-network provider according to your insurance; reimbursement is not guaranteed unless specifically outlined in your policy. I encourage you to call your insurance directly to inquire about your out of network coverage before beginning services. I do not provide superbills for couples or families.

How much does counseling cost?

Fees are relative to the type of counseling service the client needs and whether the service involves an individual, a group, or a couple. I do keep a few spots open for reduced-fee clients.

Individual Intake   $200   60 minutes
Individual Follow Up $200  60 minutes
  Couples/Family Intake   $300   90 minutes
  Couples/Family Follow Up   $225   60 minutes
  Couples/Family Follow Up   $300   90 minutes

Why would I choose to pay out of pocket?

There are a few benefits to paying for therapy out of pocket. Confidentiality: Clients who pay privately are guaranteed that the only people who know any of the details of therapy are themselves and their therapist. Aside from normal limits to confidentiality, therapy is completely confidential, without any third party being privy to information exchanged in session. In order for an insurance company to pay for therapy, they need some information from the therapist, including your medical diagnosis, and they may even request additional records like progress notes to assess for medical necessity. Expertise: As a therapist who does not have to depend on insurance dictating my practice, I have the freedom to dedicate myself to quality ongoing trainings to perfect my craft, I have the time to take care of my own mental health so that I am always 100% with clients, and I have the energy to network with other practitioners which supports a robust resource list that I am able to provide my clients with as needed. Flexibility: Insurance follows a standardized approach to treatment, allowing for a certain amount of sessions and often dictating the clients goals, how often we meet, and sometimes even what we talk about (to meet medical necessity). By not billing insurance you and I are free to operate our sessions the way that is most helpful for you and your concerns. Diagnosis: Insurance companies require a diagnosis in order to cover services. They also don’t reimburse for certain types of concerns, two of the most common are sex therapy and couples counseling, among others. As a private pay therapist I do not have to diagnose, and we do not have to worry about your concerns not being covered.

How do I ensure confidentiality?

Confidentiality is a respected part of a therapists code of ethics. Your privacy is my priority, and I have great respect for my licensure. Laws are also in place to protect your privacy, The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) contains privacy rules to protect your medical records and personal health information, including mental health. All Telehealth appointments are provided through a secure, HIPAA-compliant Telehealth platform that is accessible from any device. All payments are collected using a secure, HIPAA-compliant app that is also accessible from any device. There are a few limitations to confidentiality, which we will discuss in our first session, and in consent paperwork.

What happens in the first session?

The first session allows us to get to know each other. I will use this time to listen to your story and periodically ask questions to understand your perspective more thoroughly. We will review your primary concerns and identify some goals for our time together. Therapy is your time, and you are in control of its path. If you are looking for couples therapy or family therapy, there is a more structured approach to our first sessions which I will discuss with you prior to meeting.
